Our Nursing Staff ensures that all medications are administered to each client, that any injuries are attended to, and that all medical emergencies will be cared for. At Jill’s House, children and young adults with intellectual disabilities enjoy adventures at our resort-like facility, while their parents have a weekend to catch up on sleep or spend time with family and friends. The children enjoy many creative activities, and the use of our playground, gyms, and specially heated indoor pool. They are cared for by a licensed nurse, daytime and overnight Direct Care staff, and a Program Manager. No transportation is provided by Jill’s House for this program. We have been able to build relationships with many of the families that spill into non-respite activities such as support groups, book studies, and annual events like our Christmas party. We believe we have been able to have a profound impact in the lives of our families, giving them space for renewal, through both respite care and non-respite support. We are still looking to expand our national locations as well as bring more family support services to our existing locations. Families enjoy rest, renewal, and relationships, while their child with intellectual disabilities enjoys a time of adventure. Jill’s House is a Christian non-profit that provides short-term, overnight respite care for families raising kids ages 6-17 with intellectual disabilities in the DC metro area, and around the country. We hope to change the face of disability ministry in America by ensuring that every family of a child with an intellectual disability has respite within reach and a connection to a church that embraces them. Jill’s House is named for a very special young lady, born in 1992, who was diagnosed with Dravet Syndrome—a rare seizure disorder. Jill’s parents’ lives changed when a friend stepped in and introduced them to the concept of respite. Respite provided an occasional break for Jill’s parents to spend time with their children and with each other, or simply to sleep.
